OVERVIEW

STAR/ODBC is a universal ODBC driver which can be used with any ODBC-capable PC application to provide easy access to multiple remote databases without programming.

Through advanced compliance with MicrosoftÆs ODBC standard, STAR/ODBC offers robust functionality in working with remote databases, including support for updates, and deletes, outer joins, procedure calls, and advanced data types.

Two versions of the STAR/ODBC client are available, STAR/ODBC and STAR/ODBC FP, each of which provides different functionality, performance characteristics, and compatibility with HyperSTAR servers.

Complete support for Version 2.0 of MicrosoftÆs Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) protects your application investment now and in the future. ODBC is a de-facto industry standard that defines a common interface for connecting Windows applications to remote SQL-compatible databases.

A comprehensive, end-to-end approach to database connectivity covers the ODBC driver manager and the client and server networking software - from client desktop to server platform.

Superior performance, even beyond that of many proprietary database ODBC drivers. STAR/ODBC FP features a unique high-performance design for query generation and data delivery, enabling STAR/ODBC FP to execute database queries and return results faster than other ODBC drivers. A simpler solution and easier implementation are achieved by using a single ODBC driver to provide access to multiple databases. Both STAR/ODBC clients greatly simplify installation and administration by removing the need for separate drivers for each DBMS product. It provides a single solution for heterogeneous environments.

Interoperability with STAR/C means that ODBC and C calls can be combined in the same program, providing a greater range of functionality than available with either product alone.

Microsoft Windows v3.1, Windows 95 or Windows NT.
For Windows 3.1, 4 MB of free conventional and extended memory.
For Windows 95 or Windows NT, 8 MB of free conventional and extended memory.
Berkeley or Windows sockets compatible, TCP/IP or SLIP driver.
5 MB of hard disk for runtimes, 20 MB of hard disk space for development environments.
